Clinical Investigation About Suspected A Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus : Case report

Abstract

|
Objectives: There are a few case reports on the treatment of normal pressure hydrocephalus by oriental medicine. We got a effect on one patient with this NPH by oriental medicine and this case is scaled by UPDRS and Time of gait, Count of Footstep.
Methods: We used Sa-am acupunture methods, Sa-sang herbal medication though classifcated by patient figure and pathologic symptom.
Result:1. The patient¡¯s walking is improved at walking time, walking distance and stability. 2. Urinary incontinence is mild improved.
Conclusion: Normal pressure hydrocephalus is a rare and triad of problems: dementia, urinary incontinence, and impared ambulation. Nearly 50% of patient with hydrocephalus of known cause have response to ventriculoperitoneal shunting, but only 15% of idiopathtic cause have a good or sustaind response. We experienced a case of a 70-year-old man whose dementia, urinary incontinence, and impared ambulation caused by Normal pressure hydrocephalus and this patient improved though oriental medications.
